Some huge strides were made in the fight against hunger last week. First, Michelle Obama declared hunger relief to be one of the top causes she will support as First Lady. Second, in an effort to kick off his inaugural celebration, President-elect Barack Obama has asked all Americans to participate in King Day of Service on January 19, which builds on Martin Luther King's legacy by transforming Martin Luther King Day into a national day of community service. The President-elect's Inaugural Committee even contacted Second Harvest Heartland directly to ask us to get the community involved in honoring Dr. King through hunger relief.

Well, Second Harvest Heartland is going to make it as easy as one, two, three... four, five for you to honor Dr. King, celebrate President-elect Obama's inauguration, and fight hunger in the Heartland. In the coming weeks, some notable Minnesotans will help us unveil five ways everyone can help feed the hungry in Minnesota - on Martin Luther King Day and every day.
