Anti-Hunger Policy Priorities
Policy Priorities to Make Hunger History
Minnesota’s hunger relief network, which includes food banks, food shelves, and food distribution programs, is strong and resilient. Yet 1 in 5 families in Minnesota are unable to afford the food they need, resulting in multiple years of record numbers of food shelf visits.
Hunger is a solvable problem – but it cannot be solved through charity alone. We need everyone at the table, including policymakers at every level, to ensure no one goes hungry in Minnesota. Demand for emergency food assistance is skyrocketing while state and federal support has fallen far short of the actual need. That is why policy advocacy is so critical.
Working closely with our anti-hunger allies throughout the state, we are seeking additional resources for the hunger relief network and enhancements to critical hunger-reducing programs like SNAP. Yet even while we work to increase the amount of emergency food and grocery support available to neighbors in need, we know we also need to tackle hunger at its roots in order to help more families achieve lasting economic stability.
