For Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day each year, Second Harvest Heartland partners with Bremer Bank to invite hundreds of volunteers to serve our hungry neighbors for an event called Bring Your Child to Serve Day. This year, more than 400 volunteers packed enough food for 24,428 meals in a single day, an astounding accomplishment.

The food packed will go to food shelves, pantries and other partner programs in the heartland, providing support for our 532,000 hungry neighbors.

Bring Your Child to Serve Day provides a meaningful volunteer experience that allows Second Harvest Heartland to educate and inspire young people to adopt a life-long passion for supporting hunger relief, something that continues to be a prevalent and pervasive issue in our area.

Thank you to those who volunteered and spent a couple of hours packing and sorting food alongside your friends and family. You made a difference!

If you weren’t able to make it to Bring You Child to Serve Day, or even if you were, you can continue to join us in ending hunger by learning how to get involved.
