The Vikings Suit Up to Kick Childhood Hunger

The Minnesota Vikings players, coaches and alumni know that many of their biggest, most loyal fans are also the youngest—children.
Of those kids in purple, cheering and practicing touchdown catches in the living room, 1 in 6 will go to bed hungry tonight.
“It’s shocking. That’s the word that comes to mind,” said Vikings Youth Marketing & Social Responsibility Director Brett Taber. “This is the first generation that’s tracking to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents.”
The Vikings knew they had to do something that would both relieve hunger for kids and connect fans to the team who brings us together. And summer is important timing, as 40 percent of K-12 Minnesota students are on free and reduced-price meals—food they can’t access on summer break from school.
The Vikings are teaming up with Second Harvest Heartland to kick childhood hunger. Taste of the Vikings, presented by Land O’Lakes, Inc. will be at U.S. Bank Stadium this year.
An unforgettable event, Taste of the Vikings will give guests the chance to sample food from the Twin Cities’ finest restaurants and enjoy E&J Gallo wine, while rubbing shoulders with your favorite Vikings players, Legends and coaches. All proceeds will benefit Second Harvest Heartland to provide more than 3 million meals to kids throughout Minnesota during the summer months.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 14

“[It’s important] to ensure all the youth in our community don’t have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” Brett said, “and instead focus on being a child.”
