September is Hunger Action Month

Will you join us in our mission to end hunger together?

September is Hunger Action Month, the time to join forces to fight hunger in our communities. And now, this fight is more important than ever before. The coronavirus pandemic has created an unprecedented hunger crisis right here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Local families are struggling to afford food because of missed work and school closures.

Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 11 of us struggled to afford food. Now, 1 in 8 of us face hunger. Let's join forces to ensure every child, senior, working parent, veteran, student and neighbor has enough nutritious food to eat. No one should face this virus or it's aftermath hungry.

Which hunger fighting action will you take?

Learn more about the federally-funded SNAP program. Reach out to your elected officials or candidates and ask them to support this critical, effective and efficient program.

Show your support by attending events, hosting a virtual food and fund drive or creating a Facebook Fundraiser and telling your friends why you support Second Harvest Heartland.

Sign up for a shift at our Brooklyn Park or Maplewood facilities to sort and pack food for distribution.

Donating money is the most efficient way to get food to families who need a little extra help. Your gift is combined with donated and purchased food and volunteer time to make the biggest impact possible. And today it can provide twice as many meals! A generous Minnesota family is providing a match of $100,000 to help supply free emergency grocery distributions, food boxes, and other desperately needed meals.

Please know that any action you take—whether big or small—is bringing us one step closer to achieving our mission. ♥ Thank you for joining us in this fight!
