Maintaining a healthy diet during times of financial stress can be challenging—we hear about it from our agency partners and those we serve every day.

That’s why Second Harvest Heartland is focused on collecting and distributing more fresh, healthy food items to our local food shelves and other agency partners. We are proud of the increasing percentage of fresh food we offer to agencies—last year, more than 49% of the food we delivered was fresh.

We are committed to providing a variety of foods, knowing that local agencies order and offer products that best reflect the wants and needs of their clients. That’s why we are happy to see that one local agency, Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People (VEAP), shares the same commitment to client’s health and wellbeing as we do.

Read about how VEAP is helping provide healthy foods and education to their clients here.
