Let’s Kick Hunger Day Provides 800,000+ Meals
Every day, hungry neighbors in the Heartland face difficult choices between paying for food and other necessities. Neighbors like Tara, a mother who reached out to Second Harvest Heartland and her local food shelf after her husband was injured at work and they found themselves struggling to put food on the table. Moved by stories of neighbors like Tara, hundreds of people stepped up to help end hunger by becoming Hunger Heroes during the 12-hour Let’s Kick Hunger Day Radiothon event.
Thanks to every donor, volunteer and our generous sponsors and partners - WCCO Radio, Taste of the NFL, Ag Star Financial, General Mills and Land O’Lakes - the eighth annual Let’s Kick Hunger Day Radiothon raised more than $266,000! Donations are still rolling in, but the funds raised in a single day will help provide more than 800,000 meals to local families, children and seniors struggling with hunger.
“It is remarkable to witness the generosity and support of our listeners, who have helped make the ‘Let’s Kick Hunger Day’ radiothon a success for the past eight years,” said Shannon Knoepke, SVP, Market Manager & Director of Sales with CBS Radio Minneapolis. “And it’s a real honor for all of us at WCCO Radio to be a part of such a meaningful and important effort.”
The commitment and dedication of our partners and donors to help end hunger in our communities has pushed the eight-year event total to more than $1.7 million raised. Thank you.
