Fuel a Stronger Healthier Future When Everyone is Fed

A letter from our CEO

What did you eat yesterday? It might not have occurred to you, but that apple on the way to work or the hurried turkey sandwich at your desk fueled everything that came after. Thousands of Minnesota kids, families and seniors are living without the fuel they need to thrive and the basic peace of mind of knowing where their next meal will come from.

In our region, known for an abundance of food that feeds our quality of life, hunger is still a problem.

Hunger is a problem we can solve because we have enough to share.

The good news is, it’s a problem we can solve. We can stand against and reverse this trend by building modern operations, broad partnerships and smart new approaches to match the scale of hunger in our community.

To take our work even further, we’ve launched Fueling the Future, the Second Harvest Heartland Capital Campaign, that will help us leap forward in how we tackle hunger relief. With a bigger and better facility (our West Campus in Brooklyn Park) and new approaches to partnerships from nonprofit agencies to schools to health care, this work is a once-in-a-generation chance to make lasting change.

We’ll keep working to help lower people’s risk of disease by providing regular access to fresh, healthy food. We’ll grow our own leafy greens using hydroponic technology, making sure that this nutritious food source is not a luxury in our community. We’ll continue working on solutions with a long shelf life.

It all starts with the right combination of energy and spark. You bring the fuel, we’ll build a better future.
