Agency Partner Spotlight of the Month: Windom Area Caring Center

It’s been a long road back to Second Harvest Heartland for Windom Area Caring Center. The food shelf (originally Cottonwood County Sharing Center) had been in existence since the mid-1970’s, but lost its church sponsorship in 2008 and was thus no longer eligible for partnership with Second Harvest Heartland. After the director retired in 2012, a community group formed a board and applied for its federal charitable organization designation. The people in Windom were anxiously awaiting the day when their partnership with Second Harvest Heartland could be reestablished. Eighteen months later, that day finally arrived. In late October, Windom Area Sharing Center received its first delivery and sent the following note:

"We want to thank Second Harvest Heartland as a whole for our groceries that we received yesterday. It was such a thrill to see that big white semi pull into our parking lot and a big smile on the driver’s face....We proceeded to start unpacking and filling our shelves and our freezers. By the time we left the Center, our shelves were full and everything was in place.
We are so blessed to be a part of Second Harvest Heartland and we thank you!! The 18 months we had to wait for our 501c3 became ‘worth the wait’ TODAY!!

Thank you everyone!”
