A Message from Our CEO: Our New Tagline Says it All

This fall, Second Harvest Heartland is introducing a tagline that reflects the essence of our brand: “Food changes everything™.” These three words neatly encompass our programs, as well as the impact of our work in getting more food to more hungry people and helping transform our hunger relief system for even stronger results.

Food impacts wellbeing. Access to wholesome foods, such as fresh produce, supports the health of our hungry neighbors. We are leading the Produce Capture Institute, a new and innovative “center of excellence” within the Feeding America network to share replicable agricultural surplus best practices, building on our own work in capturing millions of pounds of edible crops in Minnesota and helping move them from farm to food shelf.

We are also expanding our Food Rescue program to capture good leftover prepared food from hotels, restaurants and cafeterias, to help close our area’s missing meal gap.

Food impacts learning. Hungry children may suffer developmental impairment that limits their ability to succeed in school. Second Harvest Heartland is working on a number of fronts with the State of Minnesota and other partners on programs to get food to hungry kids year-round for better learning outcomes. For example, we supported the launch of a summer mobile food pantry run by Minneapolis Public Schools.

Food provides hope. I recently received a note from a client that powerfully brought home how food can provide stability during difficult times. The note said simply, “Your help restores my faith in humanity.”
