Volunteer Spotlight: Jon
For Jon, the connection between hunger and health is clear. His day job at UnitedHealth Group (where he’s worked for nearly 23 years) is focused on delivering a positive digital experience for members with behavioral health needs and employee assistance programs.
“Volunteering at Second Harvest Heartland parallels my work,” Jon said, “where in both instances our focus is on providing meaningful help to individuals while preserving their privacy and dignity.”
Jon has been volunteering for Second Harvest Heartland for four years, and not only does he support his neighbors on an individual basis, he also organizes groups from his workplace to volunteer as a team.
“It provides the opportunity to show compassion and make difference in our community where the people are struggling more now than any time I can recall,” Jon said. “It is the spirit of giving back through helping those less fortunate.”
Plus, Jon said, it’s a great activity for his colleagues to do together. “Volunteering at Second Harvest Heartland provides a great opportunity to build teamwork, develop deeper social connections and have fun,” Jon said.
When he’s not making a difference at Second Harvest Heartland or at work, Jon spends as much time out on the water as possible at the cabin with his wife and three daughters.
