When Alta Oben began supporting hunger relief years ago while living in Washington D.C., she gave annually on a national level. But when she moved back to Minnesota in 2013, she wanted to alta photogive locally and help those in need in her own community.

Since then, she has included Second Harvest Heartland in her estate plan.

“After I retired, I decided to create my will. Since I don’t have any kids or siblings, I had to decide where the money would go,” said Alta. “I thought about charities I already supported, and Second Harvest Heartland was one of them. I care about taking care of people, and I care about Second Harvest Heartland and the great work they do.”

Alta feels assured knowing that her generous gift to Second Harvest Heartland will help keep our hunger relief efforts going today, and well in to the future.

“The idea of including an organization in your will and letting the organization plan for the future with your gift is a wonderful feeling,” said Alta.

Alta also sponsored a produce distribution last summer, and was able to see her work in action.

“I visited the produce distribution and was able to see firsthand how I’m helping my community. You get a chance to see where your money is going and the people you are helping.”
