If you already have included Second Harvest Heartland in your estate plans, thank you so much! Please let us know by completing and returning this form. It is helpful for our goal-setting to understand your intentions, and we want to properly express our gratitude.

Please consult with your attorney or advisor before making any financial commitments to Second Harvest Heartland or any other organization.

Wills and Bequests

An excellent way to support our mission is to leave us a bequest in your will or living trust. This allows you to continue your passionate partnership in the fight against hunger while also taking care of your loved ones. You can leave a percentage or set amount of your overall estate, or specific assets like real estate. Please contact our team for tax ID information to use with your bequest language.

Don’t know where to start? Please use our Will Planning Guide to help you reflect on your priorities before you speak with your attorney.

Beneficiary Designations

Just like you can name a loved one as a beneficiary on your financial accounts, retirement assets or insurance policies, you can also name Second Harvest Heartland to receive funds as a beneficiary. Did you know that beneficiary designations supersede any allocations made in a will? That means that Second Harvest Heartland would receive these funds before your accounts go into the probate process, ensuring that your gift is put to use as soon as possible. Please contact our team for tax ID information to use with your beneficiary forms.

Charitable Gift Annuities

A Charitable Gift Annuity (CGA) is a simple, tax-effective gift that benefits both Second Harvest Heartland and you as a donor. When you make a charitable gift to fund a CGA, you receive an immediate tax-deduction on a portion of that gift. You then receive fixed payments every year for your lifetime and the lifetime of one other beneficiary if you choose. After your passing, the remaining balance of your gift goes to support Second Harvest Heartland.

Our team is here to help! Please contact Development Officer Kelsey Tyler at 651-282-0865 or to discuss planned giving and learn more about how you can impact our mission to end hunger together through your estate.

Legacy gift: Wanda Lorentzen

Wanda Lorentzen SupporterWanda Lorentzen had a very independent spirit and was a life-long learner, with over 1,200 books in her personal library. She was also very generous and cared deeply for helping those around her and from afar–hosting many foreign exchange students from all over the world.

When Wanda learned of her terminal illness in 2011, she had a discussion with her sister, Deb Gerber, on how to establish a long-term commitment to helping those in need in her community. According to Deb, Wanda decided that food was one of the basic human needs she wanted to support and selected Second Harvest Heartland as the organization she most trusted with her bequest.

Deb is very proud of her sister, not only for the thoughtful way Wanda planned her legacy gift, but also for confirming her independence by self-directing her legacy while she was still with us.
