Our Response to the Federal Government Shutdown
Our Response to the Federal Government Shutdown
Grocery budgets have been cut for hundreds of thousands of Minnesotans. Beginning November 1, SNAP benefits will be cut and delayed for the 440,000 Minnesotans who depend on them. In Minnesota, we show up for one another when times get tough. This is the moment to lean into generosity. Here’s how we’re helping and how you can, too.
More food:
- 50 extra truckloads of emergency food will hit the road to meet the need through December.
- Millions of pounds of additional milk, veggies, and protein will be shared.
- Thousands of emergency grocery boxes will be packed by our mighty volunteer workforce and shared wherever they’re needed.
More support:
- We deliver 80 percent of the emergency food in our area, so when we add more deliveries, more neighbors get what they need.
- We need a fully stocked warehouse to respond to this moment. We’re sourcing more staples like cereal, pasta, beans, and rice every day.
More community:
- Because of how efficiently we source food, your local food bank and food shelves are able to stretch dollars in support of the communities we serve. While food donations are often welcome, your financial contributions to the hunger relief organizations in your area will be the most impactful at this moment.
- Your time is also extremely valuable, and volunteers are needed now more than ever. Join us for a food packing shift or offer your skills to support our food bank and your local food shelf.
- Elected officials can support emergency grocery efforts. Contact your lawmakers and make sure they know what is at stake!
