Sarah Moberg Appointed as Chief Executive Officer
Second Harvest Heartland is excited to announce the official appointment of Sarah Moberg as Chief Executive Officer. Sarah had been serving as interim CEO since June and was officially appointed to the role permanently by Second Harvest Heartland’s Board of Directors late last week.
As an innovative engineer with deep knowledge of food systems, supply chains, and the importance of connections, Sarah is uniquely qualified to lead the nation’s second largest food bank at a time of change and uncertainty, where we need to think about hunger relief differently. Sarah’s prior role as Second Harvest Heartland’s chief operations officer, along with her 25 years of experience focused on research, development, and food supply chains with General Mills, makes her a natural fit to take on the new challenges facing the hunger-relief network, all while championing our moonshot goal to cut hunger in half in Minnesota by 2030.
“Sarah has been an integral part in Second Harvest Heartland’s growth over these past four years – helping deliver more meals to neighbors than ever before, leading to Second Harvest Heartland becoming the second largest food bank in the country,” said Second Harvest Heartland Board Chair Jill Bollettieri. “Sarah is a tenacious and insightful leader who will continue to advance Second Harvest Heartland’s bold work in redefining what it means to be a food bank.”
“I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to lead an incredible team that’s doing incredible work for our community every day,” said Sarah. “Although we face some headwinds, our mission is clear and commitment as bold as ever – we believe everyone deserves access to the food they need to thrive and we are determined to continue innovating and bringing more people to the table to end hunger together.”
At a time when 1 in 5 households in Minnesota cannot afford the food they need, coupled with the largest ever cuts to federal nutrition programs like SNAP, hunger relief is more important than ever – and will need to be addressed in new ways. Over the weeks and months ahead, Sarah will be continuing to engage with local and national hunger-relief partners to develop new approaches and new partnerships to support our neighbors and communities.
“Hunger is a solvable issue,” said Sarah, “but it’s going to take all of us.”
Recently, Sarah was featured on the podcast HUMANATY with host Mana Moini. Hear directly from Sarah here as she discusses the current state of hunger and the work Second Harvest Heartland is doing to cut hunger in half in Minnesota.
