A Partnership That Delivers: Amazon and The Minnesota Wild Team Up to End Hunger

When Amazon invited Second Harvest Heartland to tour their Golden Valley Same Day Delivery facility, we figured we'd see some impressive logistics in action—and we did.

What we didn't expect? A friendly competition, a couple of NHL stars, and a $50,000 gift that will provide meals to families facing hunger.

The Amazon team challenged Second Harvest Heartland’s team to a packing contest for a good cause—and they brought in some serious reinforcements. Minnesota Wild forward Marcus Foligno and former NHL player Kyle Okposo joined the Amazon employees to see who could pack customer orders fastest.

After the packing contest, Marcus spoke with the Amazon team about teamwork, leadership, and the importance of giving back. Then came the biggest surprise of all—Amazon presented Second Harvest Heartland with a $50,000 donation.

"That was the cherry on top," Marcus said. "It was so cool to see what Amazon and organizations like Second Harvest can do to help the community. I'm really honored to be part of that check presentation. Supporting people so they don't go hungry is so important. It was exciting to get behind that and see some good in this world."

The partnership between Second Harvest Heartland and Amazon goes beyond this single gift. Amazon staff members regularly volunteer to pack food in our Volunteer Center and the company donated 1.3 million pounds of food to our food bank last year.

"We realize there is tremendous need in all the communities we serve, and the greater Minneapolis metro area is no exception," explained Amazon Community Engagement Manager Dean Allsopp. “Our Golden Valley Same Day Delivery site donates more than 12,000 pounds of food items each month. It's an honor to support Second Harvest Heartland's work, and inspiring to see the positive impact they have on communities and families throughout the metro area.”

When organizations work together—whether it's a food bank, a logistics company, or professional athletes using their platform for good—we can make an even greater impact in ending hunger.
