Doing the Work They Love to Help Feed Our Hungry Neighbors

What if you could help a family in need, every single hour, of every single day, simply by showing up and doing the work you love? This was the question Antenna CEO Brendon Schrader posed to himself and Antenna employees in 2015, with the goal of creating a community impact program that answered this question and engaged employees and consultants in a significant way.

Out of this one simple question, the Good Works program was born. Through the program, Antenna, a Minneapolis-based marketing firm, provides one meal to local families for every billable hour its consultants and contractors work.  But that’s not all. In addition to the hourly meal contribution, Antenna employees and contractors volunteer together on a quarterly basis, sorting and repacking at our Brooklyn Park volunteer center.

“We’ve been incredibly inspired by our employees and consultants’ commitment to donating their time and effort to fighting hunger in Minnesota,” Schrader said. “Our extended work family strives to make life easier for families in need by doing work they love.”

According to Schrader, this combination of time and financial resources ensures the company fights hunger and builds community from the inside out. More than 500 people—Antenna employees, contractors, and their families—have participated in the program since its inception in 2016.

Second Harvest Heartland Community Engagement Specialist, Anne Laskey, calls the partnerships like that between Antenna and Second Harvest Heartland, ‘invaluable.’

“We’re incredibly proud of their innovative, passionate work developing a give-back program that is truly part of the DNA of their company,” Laskey said. “Every day, they are raising important support for our hungry neighbors and awareness of the pervasive problem of hunger in our communities.”

The program has been so successful, it was recently recognized by the American Staffing Association with a Care Award for fighting hunger in the Twin Cities.
