As we face the worst hunger crisis since the Great Depression, dependable monthly donations are vital. During July, new sustaining gifts will be matched 2-to-1 for the first 12 months. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to triple your impact, providing three times as many meals for families in need. Sign up by July 31 to have your recurring gift tripled for an entire year.

There’s never been a better time to give monthly

Here are three reasons to become a Monthly Giver—and why it’s especially important right now:

  • A new hunger crisis. The number of families needing food assistance is expected to surge after temporary relief from stimulus payments and increased unemployment benefits end in July. 275,000 additional Minnesotans—including 112,000 kids—will face food insecurity and Second Harvest Heartland expects a 70% increase in demand for food.
  • The hunger crisis isn’t going away any time soon. The new surge in hunger is expected to peak in September and continue well into 2021. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 11 Minnesotans struggled to afford food. By August of 2020, it’s expected that 1 in 8 will face hunger. We’re in this for the long haul. Ongoing, dependable support is critical to ensure neighbors experiencing hunger get the food they need to thrive now and in the tough months ahead.
  • Monthly gifts are being matched in July. When you sign up to be a Monthly Giver before July 31 your recurring gift will be TRIPLED with a 2-to-1 match for the first 12 months, up to $30,000. This means your monthly gift can provide three times as many meals for families in need for a whole year. With the match, a gift of $30 per month can now provide 3,240 meals per year for families in need.

Hunger can be kept at bay with sustaining support

There’s plenty of food in the heartland, but because of the new hunger surge, Second Harvest Heartland will need greatly expanded resources to source and distribute it. As increased need and high food costs are expected to last for many months to come, sustaining support is vital to ensure we can continue to provide enough food for neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Second Harvest Heartland, in partnership with nearly 1,000 food shelves and other hunger relief organizations, is prepared to distribute an additional 31 million pounds of food—or 25 million meals—to feed hungry families in our area in the upcoming months. We can’t do this without ongoing community support.

With your help, we can continue to provide enough free emergency grocery pop-ups, food boxes, and other meals to ensure every child, family and senior in our area has the food they need in the difficult months ahead.

In July only—monthly gifts are tripled with a 2-to-1 match

When you sign up to become a Monthly Giver by July 31 your recurring gift will be matched 2-to-1 for an entire year. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to TRIPLE your impact, providing three times as many meals for neighbors in need.

It’s simple and easy to sign up, and you’ll have the peace of mind knowing that your gift will be automatically charged each month, providing steady and dependable support for families in need year-round. You can change the gift amount or cancel payment anytime, just let us know.

With your sustaining support, we can face this new hunger crisis head-on. Thank you for your ongoing partnership.
