Fresh Produce Distributions
Jim Prokopanko & Bonnie McPhee/Second Harvest Heartland Fresh Produce Distribution
In 2014, Second Harvest Heartland partnered with local agencies to pilot distributions of fresh produce in high-need areas. These distributions were supplemental to the partner agencies’ existing distributions. Through two of the pilot distribution sites supported by volunteers, more than 82,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables were distributed serving 7,000 individuals and 1,500 families.
Second Harvest Heartland will continue to expand fresh produce distribution opportunities in an effort to get more nutritious foods into the communities that need it the most.
Funding for Fresh Produce Distributions is provided by UnitedHealthcare.
