With 1 in 10 Minnesotans struggling with hunger, we can't afford to allow any food to go to waste. The Harvest to Home initiative works closely with farmers throughout Minnesota to efficiently and effectively collect excess produce so that we are able to provide locally grown, farm fresh food to our neighbors in need.
This program, which began six years ago through the work of six Feeding America food banks that support Minnesota, has received and distributed more than five million pounds of donated, locally grown surplus produce. But while the number of pounds collected has increased, so has the need for this fresh, nutritious food.
By working together we can pioneer new ways to reduce waste, better utilize resources available in this land of plenty and help bring more food to those in our community who are hungry.
