food show and special event volunteer opportunities
Help the Food Rescue - Twelve Baskets program collect donations from food industry trade shows. The food shows take place throughout the year usually on weekday afternoons. Groups of 6 - 10 volunteers are needed to work with our food rescue staff to collect food to be distributed to our member agencies. We can also use individuals for these events. These are often short notice events so put your name in for them if you’re interested!
Special events take place throughout the year, usually on evenings and/or weekends. They may include staffing an information booth at a concert or helping out with various tasks at a Second Harvest Heartland fundraiser, which can be a large party where volunteers get to sample the food and mingle with the crowd. We can typically use individuals or groups for these special events, depending on the event. Again, these are often short-notice events.

*Our policy requires that youth ages 14-18 must be accompanied by one adult age 21 or older in a minimum ratio of 1 adult to 6 youth. Volunteer requests for age 13 and under must be addressed on a case-by-case basis. In the warm weather months, volunteers must wear close-toed shoes. These requirements reflect safety concerns at our Second Harvest Heartland locations.
