most needed items
Second Harvest Heartland strives to provide the 950 partnering nonprofit member agencies we serve with a wide variety of products needed by the individuals and families who battle hunger. A diversity of food helps balance nutritional intake and diet - especially important to children, seniors, immigrants and those with health challenges. Providing various household products allows families some additional money needed to purchase specific food items.
Second Harvest Heartland accepts product donations ranging in size from individual cases to multiple truckloads. Your donation will be provided to our agency partners and distributed efficiently to the people who need it most.
Some of the products needed include:
- Meat (canned, fresh, frozen)
- Other protein (peanut butter, nuts, beans)
- Cereals (cold and hot)
- Vegetables (fresh, canned and frozen)
- Fruits (fresh, dried, canned and frozen)
- Juices (Refrigerated, canned, asceptic pack)
- Milk (fresh, packaged, canned)
- Pasta (both packaged and bulk – we can repack into smaller packages)
- Beverages (Fruit drinks, water, tea)
- Bread and baked goods (fresh, frozen)
- Mixes
- Baking needs (flour, spices, chips, sugar)
- Oils and Dressings
- Fresh Produce
- Foodservice-sized items
- Health and beauty aids (shampoo and hair care, deodorant, toothpaste, soap)
- Cleaning products (dish soap, laundry soap, cleansers, bleach)
- Household and personal paper products (toilet tissue, napkins, paper towels, paper plates)
While we pride ourselves on accepting almost all offers, we may need to refuse a donation offer based on certain factors such as distribution life (too close to code or past code with no extended shelf life), packaging integrity (broken packaging), oversupply or packaging size. In that rare instance, we will help refer you to a more suitable charity if we can. Contact us with the specific information about your intended product donation and we will quickly help you work out the details.
