Volunteer at Dish: Cuisine for Change
Dish: Cuisine for Change is Second Harvest Heartland's annual gala, created to raise awareness and funds. This year the event will be held Thursday, May 4 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre.
We are in need of volunteers! We hope you will consider joining us for an amazing event featuring food and wine sampling from local restaurants, live and silent auction, and comedian Billy Gardell! Your gift of time and talent entitles you to the following event perks:
- Complimentary meal
- Opportunity to partake in the local restaurant tasting experience (as your shift permits)
- Option to bid on auction items
Unfortunately, we are not able to guarantee availability to view the program-portion of the evening including Billy Gardell. If there is room available, we will let you know that evening.
Without the help of over 80 volunteers we would not be able to orchestrate a smashing event—one that allows us to feed over 2.3 million people. We hope you will join us on May 4, 2017 as we fight to end hunger in our community.
Available Volunteer Shifts:
Restaurant Load In/Load Out - FULL
Shift time: 3:30pm – 8:00pm

Throughout the event, volunteers will circulate and make sure all restaurants have everything they need. When the seated dessert begins, volunteers will assist restaurants with packing and unloading as needed/requested.
Guest Services - FULL
Shift Time: 4:30pm – 8:00pm
Tasks: The Guest Services Volunteers will work at the cell phone sign-up booth, greet guests or hand out trays to guests.
Shift Time: 4:45pm – 8:00pm
Tasks: Volunteers circulate the event to let guests know about the raffle and sell tickets. Raffle volunteers will work in pairs. Notes: These volunteers must be outgoing and comfortable interacting with guests and asking them to purchase raffle tickets.
Silent Auction Floater
Shift Time: 5:00pm – 8:00pm
Tasks: During the silent auction, you will circulate throughout the venue assisting bidders with the bid process on the electronic bid pads and kiosks.
Live Auction Spotter
Shift Time: 6:45pm – 9:30pm
Tasks: Volunteers Spotters will act as a visual liaison between bidders and the live auctioneer by pointing out bidders. They will also assist bidders with questions on their electronic bid pads.
Auction Packing and Check out
Shift Time: 7:00pm – 10:30pm
Tasks: Volunteers will assist auction winners, collect a signed invoice, and deliver items to the winning guests. We will ask that some of the volunteers assist in directing the traffic of guests picking up their items. Those volunteers working the checkout terminals will be working with laptops and bar code scanners, so minimal technical experience is required.
