Take Action this September in Hunger Action Month!

September 7, 2012 By: Sara Blair Category: WordPress Import

September is Hunger Action Month, and people across the nation are stepping up and joining the fight against hunger in our communities. As a supporter of Second Harvest Heartland, you already know that hunger is more prevalent than ever: 1 in 10 people in your neighborhood is at risk of going without a meal today. But together, we can do something about it.

There are so many ways for you to get involved this September, we hope you won’t choose just one. From an all-day, family-friendly Pack-a-Thon to rounding up your grocery total at Cub Foods, you can make a big impact with some simple actions.

Join us for the Pack-a-Thon
The Pack-a-Thon is an all-day, action-packed, family-friendly volunteer event at Second Harvest Heartland West. This is a great opportunity to roll up your sleeves and fight hunger while having fun with friends, family or co-workers. Sign up solo for a two-hour shift, or recruit a team to join you—no matter how you choose to participate, you’ll make a difference.

Shifts are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The Mosaic Company is generously matching registration fees for the first 400 participants and the first $40,000 in donations, so sign up fast!

Give a Little, Feed a Lot
For the second year in a row, Second Harvest Heartland is partnering with Cub Foods, Malt O’Meal and Better Oats, Snapple, KSTP and Minnesota’s Feeding America Food Banks to raise more than 2.3 million meals for those in need in Minnesota. And new this year: Dean Foods has stepped up to join the efforts. Here’s what you can do:

Round up your grocery total at Cub
When you shop your local Cub during September, just tell your cashier you want to round up your total to the nearest $1. Your extra change will help fight hunger. You can also purchase select products from Malt O’Meal, Better Oats and Dean Foods to trigger a donation, or buy a Cub Community Cupboard Bag to donate to your local food shelf.

Double your Dollar
Malt O’Meal and Better Oats, Snapple and Dean Foods are offering a $50,000 match for all gifts made online during September! That means your $5, $20 or even $1,000 donation will be doubled—making a huge impact on our ability to provide more food for more people this fall and holiday season. Be sure to sign up for email updates on our website to get the alert when the match is live!
