Smithfield Donates 60,000 Pounds of Protein
Today, partners from Smithfield and CUB were onsite at our main distribution center in St. Paul with two truckloads of protein. 60,000 pounds to be exact!
This donation was part of Smithfield’s nationwide Helping Hungry Homes tour, a program designed to help Americans become more food secure. As part of an effort to raise awareness about the necessity of providing assistance to individuals and families in need, the program will help fight hunger through more than 30 large-scale protein donations to food banks across the United States totaling more than 3.5 million servings. To date, Helping Hungry Homes has provided more than 39 million servings of protein to food banks across America.
During their stop at Second Harvest Heartland, Minnesota Vikings player, Kyle Rudolph joined the Smithfield team to help raise additional awareness stating,
“I’m very proud to partner with Smithfield for the 17th stop of its Helping Hungry Homes tour to provide this donation of 60,000 pounds of protein to Second Harvest Heartland. Since the start of my professional career, the Minneapolis community has supported me wholeheartedly, so I’m excited to take this opportunity to give back and help provide more than 240,000 servings to help alleviate hunger in the area.”
Thank you to Smithfield, CUB and Kyle Rudolph for the extremely generous donation of protein, a high-need item that will reach thousands of individuals in need right in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
