During the holiday season, Sandi Hofmeister with the Bethel Salvation Army says the number of families they serve has increased over the last few years, especially new families looking for help.

“Families are stressed during the holiday season with wanting to make it special for their family,” said Sandi. “They may have extra visitors to feed, special meals to prepare, and gifts they want to give. We have seen that many people depend on us to get them through the holiday season.”

During the holidays, the Bethel Salvation Army food shelf distributes holiday food baskets with food provided by Second Harvest Heartland and turkey gift cards from a local church. The families they serve are grateful for this support.

“People have expressed so much thankfulness that we are here to provide these resources to them,” said Sandi. “We see a lot of smiles, and sometimes tears.”
