After losing her job, Gail* began seeking out opportunities within the community for support. Throughout the month, Gail a single mother and grandmother uses local food shelves and produce distributions to keep her cupboards and refrigerator full.

“Produce is expensive, even before I lost my job I was only making minimum wage and it was still hard to come by,” said Gail.

The produce distribution Gail visits is easy for her to get to since it is right in her neighborhood. She appreciates the volume of food available and how fresh it is. During the distribution we met Gail at, she came prepared with a small stroller to help her get her full bag of fresh fruits and vegetables back home.

While looking for a job, Gail also hopes to return to school and do something in social services to help others that have found themselves in similar situations – working and barely making ends meet or seeking employment.

“It’s hard for the working poor,” said Gail. “And I enjoy helping others.”
