Barbara “Jo” Lawler first experienced Second Harvest Heartland when she volunteered through her job at Ecolab.

“I had no idea what I would experience, but I fell in love with the work Second Harvest Heartland was doing,” she said.

Lawler and her husband, Kevin, have since joined Second Harvest Heartland’s planned giving program—where donors can plan to make a financial donation to the organization after they pass away.

She says that giving to Second Harvest Heartland has become their number one charitable priority.

“Kevin and I are very fortunate to have Second Harvest Heartland be the vehicle of our giving,” Jo said. “We are confident that Second Harvest Heartland is one of the best non-profits in our area, if not the nation. We are so proud to be associated with such an honest, kind, compassionate organization. Giving to this charity fills our hearts.”

Giving back to the community is something that comes naturally to the Lawlers.

“Knowing that Second Harvest Heartland reaches out to our immediate and surrounding communities meant so much to us, so we wanted to give back. We are fortunate and believe that giving to those in need is what we are supposed to do. Not out of guilt, but out of compassion.”
