Making Ends Meet on a Limited Income
Over the past few months we’ve been sharing stories of people like Delima, Maria, Katie and other families that, although working, often find themselves struggling at the end of the month to have enough money for food and other necessities. Of the 532,000 people Second Harvest Heartland serves each year, nearly 70 percent are employed.
Marketplace, an organization shedding light on the growing income gap in the U.S., brings an opportunity for you to put yourself in the position of many of the individuals we serve. The Wage Wager is an interactive calculator allows you to pick a low-wage job and a state to see how hard it is to make ends meet with a limited income and necessary expenses.
We encourage you to take a few minutes and see if you can make ends meet in a low-paying job or how quickly situations change due to job loss or other scenario. What will you choose to give up to put food on the table?
