Hunger Action Month was a Success—Thank you!

Thank you to all who volunteered, donated food or made a financial contribution during Hunger Action Month! Whether you participated in the first-ever Pack-a-Thon event or rounded up your grocery total at Cub Foods, you made a big impact in our community.

First-ever Pack-a-Thon was a Win for the Community
On Saturday, September 15, more than 250 volunteers rolled up their sleeves and donated over 500 volunteer hours at our first-ever Pack-a-Thon! By the time the last volunteer shift ended, 29,825 pounds of food was packed—the equivalent of more than 23,000 meals. In addition, over $33,000 was raised by our volunteers including a generous match from our presenting sponsor, The Mosaic Company. Thank you to all of our in-kind sponsors as well—Kemps, Old Dutch, 7UP Bottling Company, Best Maid Cookie Company and Cub.

We Met the Match
Another huge component to the success of Hunger Action Month was the help from our corporate partners. During the month of September, a match for online donations was provided by Snapple, MOM Brands and Dean Foods up to $50,000. We received enough online donations to meet the match—in fact, individuals like you donated more than $62,000—well-over the $50,000 goal! Thank you to our partners and to all who donated online.

The totals for the Cub in-store donation campaign are slowly trickling in, but we will provide a total once all donations are counted.

Thanks for Doubling Down
We couldn’t be happier with the results of our first-ever Double Down Challenge. Through the month of September, every volunteer hour completed at Second Harvest Heartland West was matched with a financial contribution from local companies, including Cargill, UnitedHealthcare, OptumHealth, Kemps, General Mills and Ecolab. More than 1,750 volunteers gave more than 4,500 hours of their time at Second Harvest Heartland West in September alone.

Thank you again to all participated and partnered with us during Hunger Action Month! Your participation will help transform the lives of the many children, families and seniors in our community who need our support. Thank you, sincerely, for helping make that possible.

Please remember the need for volunteers and donations is year-round at Second Harvest Heartland. Please check out our website or follow us on Twitter and Facebook to hear about opportunities to continue to help.
