Foundation’s Gifts Support Efficiency and Safety
We rely on strong partnerships with businesses, foundations and organizations of all sizes to achieve our mission. A proud partner in our mission to end hunger, the Ray and Florence Berglund Family Foundation exceeded $1 million in donations in support of the Second Harvest Heartland mission with their most recent gift.
The foundation considers the ultimate impact on our ability to better serve our hungry neighbors. Because of this, The Ray and Florence Berglund Family Foundation takes a unique approach to supporting Second Harvest Heartland by donating capital gifts in many forms - a refrigerated cooling unit, a floor scrubber, pallet jacks, fork lifts, a delivery/pick-up van, multiple trucks, trailers and more.
“The Foundation always seeks opportunities to partner with outstanding organizations to assist those less fortunate in our community. Second Harvest has an excellent track record of being able to successfully leverage its resources to provide food at a significantly reduced cost to those who are in need. The Foundation has provided grants to purchase equipment to allow Second Harvest to operate more efficiently so it can help feed more hungry people with its limited resources and manpower,” said Stephen L. Nelson, trustee of the foundation.
We cannot do our work alone and are exceptionally thankful for partners like the Ray and Florence Berglund Family Foundation.
“Support from the Ray and Florence Berglund Foundation significantly contributed to our ability to productively receive and distribute over 93 million pounds of food last year – more than we ever have before. With their gifts of needed equipment, we’ve been able to do our work in a more safe and efficient environment,” said David Laskey, director of food bank operations.
