The Face of Hunger: Delima
As a mother, Delima’s philosophy in life has always been “family first.” That philosophy is what brings her to the Loaves & Fishes meal program, an agency partner of Second Harvest Heartland.
Delima lives in Minneapolis with her adult son.
“Sometimes I wait to eat until the end of the week, or even the end of the month, to make sure my son would eat. That’s the most important thing to me.”
Her visits to the meal site help save on groceries, especially during the winter months.
“It’s hardest in the winter. Even though my rent is fairly cheap, heat is still $50 to $100 a month,” says Delima. “For us that’s the difference between having enough for groceries and not.”
