Canstruction: Creating Art to Fight Hunger

November 12, 2013 By: Sara Blair Category: WordPress Import

We would like to give a huge thanks to the five teams who participated in the Eighth Annual Canstruction event held Oct. 5-7 at the Mall of America. The teams included: Cuningham Group Architecture, Inc.; Van Sickle Allen & Associates, LLC; HDR Architecture Inc.; Minnesota Construction Association; and Perkins+Will Architecture, Inc. The event showcased each team’s talents in building colossal structures out of ordinary food cans. All cans used to create these works of art were then donated to Second Harvest Heartland. Many of the donated cans contain nutritious food, such as tuna, tomatoes and beans. This year’s competition raised 13,371 pounds of food and over $2,000. This will provide over 18,000 meals to our hungry neighbors in need!

Thank you to all who participated and attended this year’s event and, therefore, helping to bring awareness to hunger in our community! Together, we CAN make a difference.
