Behind the Computer Screen: My Experience as a Digital Marketing Intern

When I discovered the digital marketing internship at Second Harvest Heartland, I couldn’t have found a better fit for myself. While I was looking to gain experience in the workforce and in my field of interactive media, I was also intentionally seeking to be somewhere where the goal is to help others.

It was so awesome to be in an environment where the purpose of everyone’s job around you is, in some way or another, to benefit and help feed our hungry neighbors. Being on the digital end of things, I didn’t get to experience first-hand the logistical work involving volunteers, deliveries and clients, but I did get to know every corner of the Second Harvest Heartland website and learn about all the unique ways any person or group of people are able to help. There are so many volunteers who personally take time out of their day and so many organizations and businesses that donate their food, time and money for others.

Throughout my time here, I learned a lot on a technical level, was given the option to focus on what I wanted to learn and was involved in some larger projects where I got a feel for what it’s like to work with a team of people who each bring their own thing to the table.

Overall, I have gained so much experience at Second Harvest Heartland, and have always appreciated the kindness of everyone who works here. I really enjoyed my time here, and I truly felt like part of the team!
