A Holiday Meal at Home
Thursday on a cold, December evening Carol and her husband were hoping to settle in to a nice, warm meal at home. But it’s nearing the end of the week - bills have been paid, medicine has been purchased, Carol had more than one visit to the doctor and there’s little in the cupboards or fridge to eat.
Instead of heading to the grocery store or picking up the phone to order for delivery like many of us would, Carol and her husband bundle up to head to the meal program just up the road. Two to three times a week, they rely on the meal program for their dinner. Carol was diagnosed with diabetes 26 years ago and between bills from the doctor and the cost of her medicine there is often little left for food.
With the added stress of the holidays, this time of year the meal program becomes even more valuable.
For Carol and her family, a holiday meal at home is an important part of their lives.
“It’s very hard to put a holiday meal together and still make ends meet, but having this meal at home makes things special. It’s important so we make it work,” Carol shared.
Food changes holidays for the one in 10 families right here in Minnesota and western Wisconsin that are struggling to put food on the table. Your gift can change that; because food changes everything.
