Each summer, Second Harvest Heartland conducts an outreach, awareness, and advocacy campaign to promote the growth of the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) in Minnesota. SFSP is a federal food program that provides free meals to children 18 and under during the summer months. The Child Hunger Outreach Intern is responsible for assisting with efforts to expand participation and awareness of SFSP through implementation of growth strategies in predetermined low-income areas. The Child Hunger Outreach Intern will support SFSP growth through building and maintaining relationships with new and existing community partners, by conducting meal site visits to assess current and potential outreach opportunities and methods, and by assisting with the implementation of a 2 week SFSP meal site. Additionally, the Child Hunger Outreach Intern will develop and implement a community outreach plan to increase awareness of SFSP in targeted neighborhoods. The Child Hunger Outreach Intern will be accountable for SFSP meal site data collection and documenting outreach efforts. The Child Hunger Outreach Intern will work to cultivate a culture of excellent client service, assist with promoting the Summer Food Service Program, and support the mission of Second Harvest Heartland.
